English translation — חנוכה א

And as one also sees from that which the Gemara says³

regarding Chanukah: "The next year they established them and made them holidays with Hallel and thanksgiving" — so through that which "they established them" the days of Chanukah remained a holiday every single year,

(so that even in the future,

when "all festivals will be nullified",

Chanukah will

(and Purim)

not be nullified⁴).

One must say,

that with the emphasis of "a <b>perpetual</b> festival"

(a <b>constant</b> festival),

he intends to say,

that the festival of Yud-Tes Kislev will be drawn forth <b>always</b>,

<b>constantly</b>,

into <b>all</b> <b>days</b> of the year,

And therefore the day of Yud-Tes Kislev — which in each and every year on this day is renewed and awakened⁴⁰

the matter that was revealed on Yud-Tes Kislev the first — a "permanent festival" that is drawn into all the days of the year,

like the festival of Pesach.

b)

The matter of Chassidus is a "great foundation" and a "strong pillar" that holds up and strengthens all matters of Torah and mitzvos and also the doing of permissible things for the sake of Heaven — up to the manner of "in all your ways know Him"; that when he does them with the feeling and vitality of Chassidus,

they are in a completely different manner.

That this is also one of the reasons why Chassidus is designated by the name "Ma'ayanosecha"⁴¹

Just as water is a thing on which depends the physical existence of man; so too the species of vegetation and animal life with which man nourishes himself,

their existence must come to water — and all these waters come from

(through the deep)

the springs
